The clocks have finally gone forward so British Summer Time is officially upon us. Definitely time to start planning your summer party. Of course, being British Summer Time, though we long for it we cannot guarantee six months of uninterrupted sunshine, we need to expect the odd less than perfect day, so have a look at our compilation of the coolest summer party venues in London which combine outdoor and indoor entertaining with drop dead glamour.
Streaky Gin is one of our favourite venues at Function Fixers as it combines our love of gin, cocktails, Southern American cuisine and a speakeasy vibe. In a central location, next to Hyde Park and overlooking Kensington Palace there are two floors and an outside patio area. The speakeasy is accessed by a phone box – a perfect conversation starter. Party capacity is 110 so perfect for work parties or corporate summer receptions.
To make the most of London’s superb skyline in those long summer evenings why not go up? More venues are opening up their rooftops and turning them into unique spaces. Rockwell House in Dalston has a very flexible space which can hold up to 200 people and has stunning views across the city and East London and is frequented by some seriously cool DJs to provide a memorable venue with a pinch of hipster vibe.
Another rooftop venue ideal for smaller gatherings is the Roof Gardens in Kensington. Parties of 10 or more are welcome to book a table for a three course barbecue meal and entertainment every Friday in summer. After the rooftop closes entry to the club is included. Easy to organise, but bound to impress, and don’t worry, there are heaters and the tables are undercover so weather-proof too.
For a more traditional British garden party experience in the centre of London try Gibson Hall. Stunning barbecues and cocktails in the heart of the city, with the option of a garden room should the weather be less than perfect combine to make a sophisticated venue for a larger party. Alternatively, beyond the hordes of tourists at St Paul’s Cathedral is a little known and unexpected party venue – the Churchyard at St Pauls is available for summer parties. Traditional garden games and pop up bars combined with an unexpected location will certainly lead to a memorable event.
Finally, for the coolest venues head East. Oval Space in Bethnal Green can host all manner of functions in a unique and flexible space next to the gas works. As it’s name implies this is a huge oval space of 6000 square feet which has been used for all sorts of achingly cool events from product launches to film shoots and pop up dining clubs. With covered and heated terraces for outdoor views, exceptional catering and a very flexible space it is a location for a very cool gathering.
