For almost 600 years, the spectacular gardens and orchards at Syon Park have featured beautiful seasonal displays of flora, design and horticultural innovation. It offers a jaw-dropping backdrop for a romantic Christmas adventure, and paths will guide you around some of the oldest botanical collections in the UK, down through the parkland and out to the first Garden Centre in the country – all illuminated in a spectacular neon glow.
Over 400 species of tree are calling The Enchanted Woodland home for Christmas 2014, and they are definitely at the centre of attention throughout the display. Whilst they are made visually remarkable with coloured lights, hidden statues and themed decorations, it’s the trees themselves that create the magical atmosphere that is the Enchanted Woodland, and there’s lots of information and fun facts dotted around the walk for a little educational value.
This year, the walk takes visitors on an extraordinary mile-long journey through an outdoor wonderland of colour and life. Entry starts at 5pm, when it’s dark and you can fully appreciate the neon glow on the branches and leaves. Wrap up warm and wear comfortable shoes – there are a few benches along the way where you can give your feet a rest, but not many, and we should also warn you that there are toilets at the beginning and end of the route, but no facilities are provided along this stretch of gravel and tarmac path. It’s also worth noting that a small amount of laser and strobe lighting is also used, so any guests with epilepsy will need to exercise a small amount of caution.
At the end of your walk, The Refectory Restaurant in the Garden Centre will greet you with hot and cold drinks (including mulled wine), a hearty, healthy BBQ and all manner of snacks and treats for all ages.
All the proceeds taken from your modest ticket fee are directly re-invested into the upkeep and care of the Gardens and Syon Park’s historic Great Conservatory. This year, the money is being spent on a major restoration of the glass roof on the stunning Central Pavillion.
When: 21st November –7th December.
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.
5.00pm – 8.00pm.
Price: Adults £7.00, Children (3yrs – 16yrs) £3.00. 2yrs and under go free. Call 020 8560 0882 to book your tickets!
While public transport is encouraged, due to the overflow car park flooding in heavy rain, there is free parking for over 200 cars the the venue. Syon Park has been running the Enchanted Woodland for 8 years, and not once have they ever closed due to adverse weather. Cross your fingers for an evening of snow – it’d be quite a sight, and a fantastic backdrop for photographs!
