HYDE PARK: Winter Wonderland, the annual festive assault on London’s senses, is back in Hyde Park. More than 200 Bavarian style wooden chalets, lit by fairy lights, line the walk around this fairground-style attraction. Traditional German artists and craftsmen make many of the products on sale, and you can also fuel your trip with Christmas foods such as roasted nut and gingerbread. Weekday mornings are the best time to go to avoid the absolute frenzy at weekends. 21 November-4 January

MARYLEBONE: Chiltern Street in Marylebone has a late night shopping evening. Shops and restaurants in the area will be open late, offering an extra chance to buy your gifts in the boutiques of the area. Mulled wine, cinnamon buns and ginger snaps will be on offer from some of the food places in the area including Nordic Barkery, and the famous Chiltern Firehouse opens its courtyard for Christmas treats by Executive Chef Nuno Mendes. London musician Tyler Rix will be performing a live music session throughout the evening. 5pm, 27 November

OXFORD STREET: The world’s most famous shopping street isn’t all about big high street brands. If you’re stupid brave enough to visit Oxford Street at the weekend this close to Christmas, make a point of popping into the Regent Hall (opposite BHS) for The Fair Christmas Fayre, showcasing ethical, fairtrade and eco Christmas gifts. 11am-6pm, 29 November

GARDEN MUSEUM: The Garden Museum in Lambeth holds its third annual Diggin’ Design Christmas Fair. The event, which takes place inside the Museum’s Victorian church building, aims to make the Christmas festivities as eco-friendly as possible. MORE LONDON: The multi-purpose event space near London Bridge offers a chance to buy gifts from 35 German-style chalets, many of them local London businesses. The market is aimed at shoppers of all budgets, offering products from stocking fillers to champagne. And with a plethora of twinkling lights, wreaths and garlands, we reckon it could be a good bet for getting as Christmassy as possible. As well as stocking up on gourmet gifts, you can buy hot food to eat on site (crepes, sausages, a hog roast) and enjoy entertainment from choirs and the Salvation Army band. 8-21 December
