Notting Hill comes alive at Christmas, and boasts some of the prettiest decorations and lights in the city.  Portobello Road is illuminated with sparkle and cheer, with all the trees being dressed in hundreds upon hundreds of dainty lights, and enthusiastic traders offering festive deals left right and centre from their intricately decorated shops.  Among all the hustle and bustle, however, is the opportunity to escape to a truly magical place for a few hours of gentle Christmas-themed relaxation.

At the 20th Century Theatre from 12th to 23rd December, a costumed character will be beckoning the public to walk through a Narnia-esque wardrobe, and into the world of Notting Hill’s Pop-Up Christmas Cinema.  This is a real treat for all the family, and you can enjoy all manner of tasty treats and cheeky tipples (including Bailey’s hot chocolate and organic, hand-decorated, luxury Gingerbread Men– phwoar) while you watch the classic festive film of your choice.

It’s a fantastic way to sit down and relax to break up your day of Christmas shopping, but serves equally well as a specific destination for a night out with friends and family.

There are three screenings a day at 1pm, 5pm and 8.30pm, and the doors for open an hour before the movies start, so you won’t be left hanging around in the cold if you’re a little early.  Speaking of which, it’s well worth noting that the cinema isn’t open-air and outside – so you don’t have to wrap up warm, bring a picnic rug with a waterproof underside or remember to pack a nice big brolly.  You do have to bring your own furniture, but depending upon your levels of need in terms of creature comforts, even just a plump pillow or old fold-up chair will do.  You’ll be warm, cosy and entertained – it really is a marvellous way to pass a couple of hours!
