The Corinthia is one of London’s finest hotels. Just a stone’s throw from such iconic attractions as 10 Downing Street and The Royal Opera House, this venue is tucked away on a beautiful residential street. Having entered through a small but perfectly formed foyer and given a warm welcome by the staff, you will wander open-mouthed down a decadent corridor that opens on to a simply stunning space.
The bar and restaurant at The Corinthia has been designed in a sophisticated and elegant fashion, and the entire space is double height with floor to ceiling windows. Everything here seems to glitter, and the execution of hard, clean lines meeting soft curves combining with neutral yet slightly unusual colours gives the room a really unique, stylish feel. The furniture is upholstered beautifully and is exceptionally comfortable both at the dining tables and seating areas at the bar, and the carefully placed rugs on the marble floors dampen the echoes. Cosmopolitan and trendy yet traditional and tasteful, this is a truly pleasant place to be.
The food here is sublime. The menu changes all the time due to the seasons, as all the food is fresh – but our lobster bisque soup, rump steak and Italian pecan pie was out of this world. Accompanied by a selection of wines to match each course and also a healthy flow of beers, coffee and a delicious sparkling wine to round up the evening, this meal was presented exquisitely, and though the portions were elegantly presented and may not have looked enormous, we were full to the brim by the end – which meant we got to take the most aristocratic foil swan ever made back home with us for second helpings at bedtime! (Sorry, Fido – this is far too good for doggies.)
The rooms here are among the most spacious in the city, and also some of the best-equipped. You’ll find a proper coffee machine, a bath tub with a television, WiFi, a desk with stationary, mini bar, and views of either the hotel’s charming Courtyard or views over London’s skyline. The price of your room also includes 24-hour access to the fitness centre, and there’s a fantastic contemporary spa on site. The penthouse suits are like something out of a James Bond film – gadgets, enormous roof terraces with city views, and The Musician’s Penthouse even comes with a comprehensive range of Fender guitars and amplifiers, a grand piano, vintage vinyl decks and a rock star’s bathroom!
The Corinthia is wonderfully eccentric yet maintains an air of composure and stiff upper lip. It’s a wonderful place to stay on a visit to London, and Function Fixers can book you a standard room with breakfast for just £318 – a fantastic treat for a short visit!
