Nonsuch Mansion is a historic Grade II listed building that was built in 1731 as a family home. The mansion occupies a sunny spot on the east side of Nonsuch Park – a 300 acre slice of Surrey that once served as the hunting grounds for Henry VIII’s great palace, Nonsuch Palace, which has long been ruined. Nonsuch Mansion has been recently refurbished (2009), and now offers outstanding facilities for meetings, small conferences and team building days – just an hour’s drive from Central London.
The six ground floor staterooms are usually hired exclusively as one large events space. The tall doors can all be opened onto the spacious hallway and many of the rooms interlink, so you can create a stylish and free-flowing layout but also have the option to create private, secluded spaces. All of the rooms have beautifully restored period features, golden chandeliers and long panel mirrors, with a few even boasting medieval reclaimed stained glass windows.
The largest event space is The Orchid Room. An unusual octagonal space, this room features enormous Georgian sash windows and stained glass. the rooms can be divided in two by two white shutter doors, and holds a total of 100 guests. If you hire the entire ground floor, events of up to 460 people can take place with access to a charming outdoor terrace where barbecues are a regular fixture.
If you want to savour the beauty and exclusivity of Nonsuch and its ground but need a larger events space, the permanent marquee can hold 250 for both evening receptions and daytime corporate functions. It is set on the Formal Lawn, views of which are framed by the large windowed French doors. Sparkling chandeliers add a sense of luxury, and the intelligent lighting system can be customised in terms of colour and intensity. The acoustics in here are surprisingly clear for a marquee, too – so presentations are clearly heard from the various speakers placed around the room.
Across the Formal Lawn, The Gated Meadow provides a fantastic space for large public events, extravagant team building set-ups and corporate entertainment days. Live music is permitted, as is the purchase of alcohol – making this lovely spot, encircled my trees and untamed woodland, a truly magical place for outdoor activities.
All of the State Meeting Rooms have wonderful views over the lawns and manicured gardens, and in total, you have 270sq.m. of light, airy rooms inside Nonsuch – and miles upon miles of open green parkland outside that allows for flamboyant team building games. Treasure hunts and sporting days are particularly popular here, and the venue has a long list of local companies that can suggest and cater for affordable, unusual activities.
