Chateau de Bagnois occupies a beautiful location, nestled on a hillside and surrounded by some of the oldest vineyards in the South East of France. Now an important historical monument, this stunning venue dates back to the 12th century and has housed royalty such as Charles VII and our very own Queen Elizabeth for both residencies and important private events. During the careful renovation of the building, rare and intricate 13th century artwork and tapestries were discovered – which now take pride of place in the hotel’s most magnificent events spaces, creating an authentic atmosphere and enabling visitors to see the story of the building.
This peaceful and picturesque venue offers a quintessentially French environment. Exposed pierres dorees stonework, rustic stone flag flooring, wonderfully high ceilings, ancient wooden beams, and views over the lush green countryside are just a few of the things you’d expect from a historical venue in this region – but these classic features are magnified in this handsome building, achieving a serious wow factor and creating an environment that is certain to really impress your guests.
The Chateau was restored from a disused wreck to its current glory in the late 1980s, and has now been fitted with modern plumbing and has electricity throughout – which is actually quite a rare feature for a listed building in this area. Having said that, you’re still welcome to use candles and other traditional elements on your big day, and if you wished, you could easily re-create the original romantic atmosphere of this 12th century building.
It’s also just 17 miles from Lyon airport, and offers 5* accommodation for guests – as well as a varied choice of luxurious honeymoon suites. Most of the 21 rooms are basic but very comfortable, and all offer en suite bathrooms and large seating areas. The apartments, however, are truly out of this world.
The Lady Hamlyn Suite compromises a four-poster bed, stunning tiled floor, marble bathroom, breath-taking views and authentic furnishings – the makings, surely, of a really idyllic first night together! In the morning, you can even have a tranquil breakfast in your seating area, in front of a freshly lit fire and with views of the hills. What could be better?
You can host your wedding breakfast in the Winery (120 seat cap on the banqueting table), and perhaps serve your drinks on the Terrace while enjoying fabulous views over the vineyards and towards the Alps.
The food served here is of the very best quality, with the vast majority of ingredients being sourced from the farms and fisheries of the region. The wine is, of course, all made on site in the venue’s private vineyards – and you can save a pretty penny or two on package deals that can also include local champagne and beer.
This incredible venue is available for both exclusive use and private occasions, and you can avoid all overseas communications by booking the Chateau with Function Fixers!
