The main advantage of holding your event in London, is that you have everything right here, practically on your doorstep. Transport? Check. Places to eat? Check. Accommodation? Check. Huge variety of venues? Check. Reliable Wifi?! Check. The only thing that you’re not guaranteed is perfect weather! But where else in the country are you promised that?
One of the most important aspects is accessibility. If you want people to turn up to your event, make sure that they can get there! London is home to Heathrow Airport, the UK’s premier international airport and currently the sixth busiest airport in the world. No excuse for your overseas guests to not attend your event! And with rail links to and from all over the UK, national travel is a breeze, too. Also worth remembering are coach options, such as National Express and Megabus, for albeit longer but cheaper journeys.
Us Londoners may moan about tube delays and TFL “upgrade works” and all that palaver, but really, where would we be without the underground. When it comes down to it, the city has a transport system like no other in the country. Don’t fancy the tube? Buses are great for travel with a view and will get you from A to B during those late night/early morning hours too. Just don’t forget the night bus rule – travel post drinking-type event permitted with kebab in hand only! (I kid. You will probably actually be asked to leave your yummy hot food off the bus. Sorry!)
You’re spoiled for choice with the types of venue available in the capital. First part of the venue finding process is establishing what kind of event or function you are holding. For functions such as conferences, you could go for the more traditional conference centre, such as Hallam Conference Centre or opt for something a little different, such as London’s highest dedicated event space at Landing Forty Two.
For some rather unique wedding venue options, have a look at the beautiful Grade II listed brick building home to The Chainstore for warehouse type space that you can adapt to your liking. Or how about holding your wedding at the impressive Royal College of Surgeons for a cutting edge venue! (pun intended).
There is an endless choice of restaurants for which to hold fabulous dinner parties. Whatever type of cuisine you fancy or style of interior you’re after, the restaurants available span the whole spectrum. Check out the shiny new and ultra stylish German Gymnasium housed in the gorgeous Grade II listed building across the road from St. Pancras Station, for delicious European dishes. Or for some French fusion try the extravagant and unique Sketch London and provide your guests with a dining experience to remember!
The great thing about London is that you and your guests will never be stuck for somewhere to crash for the night after your event. The city centre is full of hotels to suit a range of budgets and style choices. From the (relatively!) cheap and cheerful Holiday Inn, Mayfair to the individually designed rooms of the boutique Dean Street Townhouse, there are so many options to choose from. Many of the hotels in London also cater for conferences, meetings, weddings and a whole host of other events. It’s often worth trying to kill two birds with one stone and hiring a hotel for your function as well as using it for your accommodation.
The capital really is the place to be, whatever kind of event you’re holding. From convenience to variety, you’ll find everything here that you need to create the perfect occasion.
