This stunning neo-Gothic Victorian manor house house was built in 1815, and occupies a peaceful position – nestled in Ashdown Forest (where A.A. Milne was inspired to write Winnie the Pooh), and overlooking an expansive, sparkling lake. A desirable choice for celebrity weddings, royal receptions and high-end corporate entertainment events, this stunning building has undergone many changes since its construction, and its story is told openly and delicately through the mixture of different architectures, décors, artifacts and modifications that span over two centuries of dramatic change and progression.
All the suites here have luxurious bathrooms, enormous beds, lavish furnishings, and are individually designed according to the unusual spaces they occupy.
The quirky, historic and progressive feel of this building means that some structural elements of the interior are really quite bizarre – but it’s easy to find it charming and delightful, because nothing gets in the way – no bumped heads, no awkward corners and no ridiculous or oddly positioned furniture. Everything has its place here, and the mismatch feel of the décor has been beautifully executed in every single inch of space.
Eating here is also a real treat. There are several restaurants serving all throughout the day, and whichever one you go to, it’s certain to impress. The critically acclaimed Anderida Restaurant offers a romantic 1940s themed setting for an elegant dining experience, with a crackling open fire and gently tinkling grand piano.
The Fairways Lounge offers a more contemporary, informal environment for comfort food and fruity cocktails, and The Drawing Rooms are a classical, tranquil and sophisticated setting for a spot of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, while overlooking the lawns and the water in the morning, with a hot cup of rich coffee and cream. Late breakfast runs from 9am until noon here, so your morning can be as relaxed or as get-up-and-go as you wish.
Your day could include making the most of the contemporary and award-winning spa on offer, or a scenic walk around the 186 acres of grounds, or perhaps a round of golf at the 18 hole, par 3, and totally spectacular course – which costs just £35 for a whole day, including full use of the facilities within the club house.
Ashdown Park truly does offer every element, facility, feel and aspect that make up an unforgettable UK mini break, and we’re giving you the chance to enjoy dinner, accommodation in a suite and a luxury breakfast…completely free of charge.
