Cleeve Abbey

Cleeve Abbey was founded in the late 12th century and was originally known as 'Vallis Florida' or 'Flowering Valley' before being re-named after a nearby village. The monks and lay brothers who dwelled inside its walls followed the Cistercian order living a largely silent existence. After King Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s, the remains of Cleeve Abbey became a manor house.

As you pledge your vows within the ancient monastic walls, you can imagine the monks gliding silently in their white robes through the lovely archways and along the stone passageways that were once a backdrop to their lives of spiritual devotion.

Couples choosing to marry at Cleeve Abbey have exclusive use of this charming and ancient site for either morning or afternoon ceremonies followed by drinks receptions.

There is space close by the Gatehouse or in the Cloister for a marquee for dining and dancing if couples wish to extend their special day into the evening.
