The Royal College of Music occupies a unique place in the history of musical. Founded in 1882 by The Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII, the College is today one of the world’s leading music conservatoires, with over 600 students from more than 50 different countries.
Situated in an impressive Victorian building and enjoying an unrivalled location directly opposite the world-famous Royal Albert Hall, the RCM offers itself as a unique venue for private and corporate events.
The Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall is a performance space of the highest international standard, which can accommodate large orchestral and choral concerts. Newly-installed lighting and sound equipment replicate professional conditions for recording and broadcasting. Box Office facilities are available, and the hall is licensed for public concerts.
The hall is also suitable for lectures, dinners and receptions.
With a seating capacity of 400, the Britten Theatre’s simple elegance, responsive acoustics and intimate tiered auditorium is the perfect space for opera, music, theatre and ballet performances. One of London ‘s best-kept secrets, the theatre was designed by Sir Hugh Casson and is named after Benjamin Britten, a former student of the RCM. In the style of an Italian opera theatre with proscenium arch, orchestra pit and full fly system, the theatre has excellent technical facilities and the hire includes the use of four theatre dressing rooms. There is an RCM Box Office ticketing service and a theatre foyer bar.
With its own entrance from Prince Consort Road, the theatre is licensed for public events.
Please note the Britten Theatre does not have a sound system in situ.
The recently refurbished wood panelled Parry Rooms are situated high in the roof space of the main College building with excellent views of the Royal Albert Hall. A flexible space with interconnecting sound-proof doors which facilitates separate activities or use as one gallery space. Ideal for gala receptions and special performances in conjunction with hospitality. The Outer Parry Room is equipped with cutting-edge video-conferencing facilities. The Parry Rooms are not licensed for public concerts.
There are a range of teaching rooms with Steinway pianos available for hire at the RCM. These are suitable for interviews and small discussion groups.
Next to the Parry Rooms, Room 90 has a JW Walker organ built in 1993 and is ideal for private organ-specific recitals, lectures and masterclasses. This room is not licensed for public concerts.
