Welcome to The Principal Manchester– and to a brand new look and upgraded specifications across all 17 of our meeting and event spaces. These include the new Whitworth Rooms which can be used in conjunction with the Ballroom to create flexible conferencing facilities for more than 1,500 delegates, with a private entrance via Waterhouse Way on Whitworth Street.
As well as some of the best large-scale conference rooms in the UK, The Principal Manchester has a suite of smaller spaces for meetings and private dining, from the prestige of the Refuge Assurance Directors’ rooms to smaller boardroom and classroom spaces in the Clock Tower building.
The multi-million pound investment in The Principal Manchester includes 270 new, loft-style bedrooms and suites; a magnificent, triple-height lobby space; and The Refuge Dining Room and Public Bar, a 10,000 square-foot restaurant in partnership with the team from the award-winning Volta restaurant in West Didsbury.

Get my Free Venue ShortlistFormerly the Refuge Assurance staff dining room, our Ballroom is the largest single event space within a hotel in the northwest of England. It can also be used in conjunction with the Whitworth Rooms to maximise flexibility and numbers. Combining many original, listed features with all of the technology you need to run a large conference, the Ballroom even has its own stage, as well as natural daylight, a private bar and a dedicated, private entrance from Waterhouse Way.
The beautifully refurbished bedroom offer a loft-style wow factor; designed by award-winning architects at Michaelis Boyd, the interiors of our refurbished bedrooms and suites make full use of the building’s architectural heritage. The designs combine elements of architectural salvage with references to the ‘golden age of travel’ such as packing trunks and, in some of the rooms, travel armoires. New bed linen, smart TVs and a tuck box of treats ensure that guests feel every bit as special as the rooms.
